| The Runkel family cemetery is located near Manada Hill, West Hanover Twp., Dauphin
County, PA. It is found on Fairville Avenue, about ½ mile north of Route 39, on the top
on a private farm. While the owner is very friendly and has always allowed this writer to
have access, make sure all of the gates get closed behind you, as you must walk through a
horse pasture to reach it.
There are also German Shepherd dogs on the property and have been friendly in the past,
at least to me, but then again I have owned GSD's for the last 12 years.
You reach the cemetery through the horse gate at the north side of the barn, then walk
through the pasture and up a steep hill, to the North West. When you reach the top, you
will find the cemetery nestled along the tree line.
Tombstone inscriptions were published in Egles Notes and Queries and cemetery books by
Col. Oscar Stroh. More recently, Bob Viguers
cataloged the inscriptions. Further family research on the Runkel's conducted by Robert L. Maley . Where there are conflicting dates
or information both are shown.
