SAR Chapter Newsletter Harris Ferry ChapterFebruary 1999 Harrisburg, PA
Dave Brennan, 18 a student at Mount Carmel Area Junior-Senior High School has been selected as the winner of the Knight Essay contest by a committee of the Harris Ferry Chapter. His essay is entitled "The True Qualities of Leadership as Demonstrated by George Washington". He will be awarded the SAR Good Citizenship Medal at the DAR-SAR Washington Day Luncheon on Sunday February 21st. His essay has been submitted to the Pennsylvania SAR for consideration of a possible monetary award.
Winner of Eagle Scout Competition Eagle Scout Matthew Lynn Hockensmith, 15, of Chambersburg has been selected as the local winner of the SAR sponsored Eagle contest. He will receive a SAR Good Citizenship Medal and certificate at the DAR-SAR Washington Day luncheon on Sunday, February 21st. As an area winner Matthew will be a contender for a statewide trophy by the Pennsylvania Society of SAR, and perhaps for one of the monetary awards offered by SAR Nationally. "Washington and the Highlanders" will be the topic of Mark O. Hagenbuch our speaker for the Washington Day Meeting. Mr. Hagenbuch is a recent member of the Harris Ferry Chapter, is a re-enactor and hails from the town of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania. For 1999
